Upset Stomach Remedies

Upset Stomach RemediesWhile there are many upset stomach remedies out there, the one you choose will be strongly influenced by how serious your problem is. If you are dealing with heartburn or gastric reflux on an almost daily basis, you should seriously consider a remedy that will treat the root cause. Messing around with band aid remedies that merely mask the symptoms is never going to get rid of the problem. In fact it is more likely to get worse. If you are in this category I would recommend taking a close look at remedy like Heartburn No More. People suffering from digestive disorders such as leaky gut syndrome, chronic heartburn, acid reflux and Hiatal Hernia, have had really good results from this natural method. If your upset tummy problem is a more occasional problem then you may find relief in some of the simple home remedies outlined below. One of the most useful upset stomach remedies is activated charcoal. Activated charcoal works by absorbing toxins in the body. The benefit of activated charcoal is that it is not digested by the body but absorbs and then passes through your system removing the toxins for good. When used as an anti-acid treatment it provides soothing relief. It is also a very useful substance to have on standby in any household. Thanks to its properties it can be a lifesaver for anyone who has ingested poisonous household chemicals or drugs. You can buy a bottle of activated charcoal for around ten dollars. It can also be purchased as pills.

Another useful treatment for upset tummies is ginger. You can dissolve a little powdered ginger in hot water and sweeten with a little honey. Alternatively try ginger beer but make sure it is an organic variety that actually contains ginger. Another simple remedy is sugar, salt and baking powder. Dissolve 8 teaspoons of sugar, one teaspoon of salt, and one teaspoon of baking powder, in one liter of water. Drink roughly one third of this per serving during the course of the day. Coconut water can also provide a useful upset stomach remedy. Drink 14 ounces of pure coconut water on an empty stomach. Repeat later in the day if necessary. It takes about an hour to provide relief.

Neutral foods like bran, bread, rice, noodles and apples can help ease an upset stomach. Milk also has soothing anti-acid properties. Rubbing the stomach in a circular motion or applying a heat pack or old fashioned hot water bottle to your stomach can also provide relief. If you are at home, try lying down with your legs at a higher elevation than your chest and rub your belly. You can use a pile of pillows under your legs to provide a comfortable way of getting your legs up.  .

Where possible, preventing the problem in the first place is better than having to treat the consequences later. The food that you eat is quite often the cause. Too much fiber content in your diet can aggravate the problem. Also avoiding fatty foods such as fries, alcohol and coffee will help to reduce heartburn. Drinking water is beneficial but avoid drinking large amounts of liquid with your main meals. Digestion is more effective in the absence of volumes of fluids. If you suffer heartburn at night when you go to bed try not eating for the 2 – 3 hours before going to bed.

An upset stomach may occur for a variety of other reasons. These reasons include stress, food allergies and digestive problems. Taking careful note of the type of food you have eaten prior to your stomach getting upset may give you some useful insights. Try keeping a food diary for a week and noting down when acid stomach is experienced. Take a look through your log at the end of the week. If you see some patterns related to specific foods you can try eliminating those foods and compare the result.

Are you taking daily medication? If so, it could be the medication itself that is contributing to your upset stomach. Try eating a piece of toast, a plain cracker or a banana right before you take your medicine. If you have tried all the simple upset stomach remedies mentioned above without success, I would recommend you get a copy of Jeff Martin’s book, Heartburn No More.
